MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM ALL AT LIANNE E DRUMMOND POETRY Waking up early with such excitement
Grabbing a bite to quickly sit down with presents, Sharing gifts between family as the tree becomes bare When all are opened and shared, With unwrapped games ready for after dinner play We munch on chocolate pennies to start the day. To the calm of carols a tasty smell floats through the house Sending the dog into an obsessive trance Of big staring eyes getting under the feet Always the trip-hazard hoping for dropped meat. And into the oven goes the turkey, And then the festivities start with a sherry. Family arrive bearing gifts to swap And more bottles are opened with a pop, We all sit down to a succulent lunch As such a joyful bunch With cracker bangs, jokes shared, hats forced, puzzles confuse And poinsettias, candles and all tableware finishings used. Conversing over the jazzy background Of old Christmas music for all generations, And the puddings, the grapes, the port and the cheese, Pass the chocolates, the tangerines, the Turkish Delights please. Some sharing a jigsaw, others laughing over a game, And of course the Queen is a main Attraction along with Christmas specials With Grandfather snoring in the corner for a while. And as the family leave in a chilled happiness With hugs and kisses and thankfulness, I retire to bed sleepy after the celebration Closing my eyes in true joy of the season.

Note: I wrote this poem back in 2015 for an electrical survivors support group where many of us have had massive electrical and lightening strike accidents. This poem attempts to incorporate all our experiences. Bolt of might electrified, Nerves to earth nearly died. A moment’s darkness seeing light, That gives a brand new life. A life of pain misunderstood, Drug companies snatched whatever they could: Mystified means psychotic lies, According to western medical pride. Lawyers grasp their part to share, In the “lies” money making bear. For the profit of private corporation, The “lies” are merely accusation. Drug companies, lawyers, management: If only they taste insomnia present! A gift of aches and pains to wake, Plans that day be sure to shake! Social outcasts through hubbub monopoly, And harsh lights for energy ecology. Short-circuited battery gives razor blades: Of fatigue, migraine, neurological cascades! Work makes life more bearable they say, “Especially when each lying game they play.” Believe the pleading electrified cries, They are far from grasping lies. Halt the pride, judgemental complacency, With call to research with humility. That facts might be electrified, And a companion to walk side by side. With groundless accusations do you even see reality?
Why does everything I say get turned around so easily? You misunderstand again and again Every action, each word spoken, even myself: It's not my nature to be rude, In fact, I can't be blatant so I'm obvious, I'm sorry but it's just not me. For it was you who sung the first key, How could I be so rude To not care but then you accuse That I'm waltzing back into your life after causing a mess, When all I was doing was offering a hand for a distress. Wake up, don't be so blind, I just hope your disillusions don't harm that poor hound Who's at the mercy of your emotions, such unstable ground. You say you know me, You proclaim we're a match, But let me say... I care and put others before my petty self, Though I suspect it was not clever to help. But I know the facts of life in this area And I gave my knowledge putting us behind, But even with these hard truths you are blind. Yes, my heart may be careless, But it's not cruel, only fumbling to be kind. |
